FAQ

Can I do a diploma thesis, M.S. thesis or an internship with you?
Maybe - it's always fun to work with bright, motivated students. However, many of the projects require specific skills. Please check here to see if you qualify and do not email or call me otherwise.
Your pages look strange in my browser, why?
Some time back, I converted this site to standards-compliant XHTML to eliminate the need for funky HTML tricks. Any modern browser displays XHTML the same way. Microsoft Internet Explorer is not a modern browser – I suggest you switch.
I got email from you with a strange attachment, what is it?
It's an S/MIME digital signature. Email programs that understand S/MIME can check that the mail you received was from me and was not altered between me and you. I sign almost all of my email and unless I know that the attachment will get my email blocked or cause you problems, you can expect to see a signature on all email from me. Of course I encourage you to get a mailer that will allow you to verify the signatures and therefore know that the email is from me and not forged.
Email from you is empty or all email content is in a text attachment?
This is caused by incompatibilities that some mailers have with S/MIME digital signatures – mostly, some versions of Microsoft Outlook. If you have a choice, get a standards-compliant mailer. It can also be caused by security plugins that you or your organization installed in your mailer. Also note that some software for running mailing lists, such as a misconfigured mailman, will tamper with S/MIME signatures, invalidating them and sometimes causing display problems. If you receive such an email, please do not hesitate to ask me to resend it!
Where did you get that S/MIME certificate? Can I get my own?
I got mine from through Thawte's web of trust and so can you.
