News I am no longer with Nokia/Nokia-Siemens-Networks, but have joined Docomo Labs in Palo Alto. My new page should be, eventually, at http://www.docomolabsresearchers-usa.com/~cwestphal. You can find my new email address by solving a captcha (click here). I hope to see you there! This page will be updated only sporadically as of 08/2007./News

I was a Sr. Research Engineer in the Metropolitan Wireless Group of Nokia-Siemens-Networks Strategy and Development in Mountain View, CA. I was working on Mobile Networking involving mesh networks, ad hoc networks, sensor networks, at the MAC and IP/routing layers. I used to work on Mobile IPv6, Context Transfers, QoS issues, header compression and optimization issues in general. I went to school at University of California, Los Angeles, where I got a MS ('95) and a PhD ('00) from the EE Department, and prior to UCLA, to Ecole Centrale Paris where I received another MS ('95). My dissertation was about optimization in networks of heterogeneous customers. I was a visiting researcher at Stanford, in the EES&OR department (now MS&E) between 1997 and 2000 (host: Nicholas Bambos), a visiting scholar in the CSAIL lab at MIT in the Fall of 2003 (host: Hari Balakrishnan), a visiting scholar in the EECS dept at UC, Berkeley in the Fall of 2004 (host: Venkat Anantharam) and a visiting professor at Keio University (host: Jun Murai) in the Winter'06-Spring'07.
